Our Animal habitats

In Room 8 today we made animal habitats. We collected natural materials from outside and things we could find in our class to create a habitat for our animals.
It was so much fun and we are really proud of the way they turned out!

Our trip to the Auckland Zoo

On Thursday 17 October Koru Whanau went to the Auckland Zoo. It was an amazing day! We saw the huge elephants, a skin shedding tuatara, we watched the keepers feeding the Spider monkeys and the playful otters. Some of us saw the seal lions being fed and the lions sleeping. We learnt some interesting facts from our  about the native birds in the Forest area.

Road Safety week

Wow, what a week this has been! We have all tried hard to walk to school, had lots of fun, with Crazy Hair, Funky feet, Silly hats and Twin and triplet day!

In Room 8 we have been writing about why it is important to walk to school...
We wrote:
We should walk to school because... it's fun! ....it keeps us fit and healthy...you can make new friends... it gives you energy....you get strong muscles!

Our Heritage

Turangawaewae - A place to stand.

"I am a strong learner when I know who I am, where I am from and what my place is in my world."

In Room 8 we talked about where we were born and where our family is from. It was fun learning about each other and sharing all about our families. We found out that some of us were born overseas and some of us speak a different language at home.

Our trip to Te Tahawai Marae

Room 8 and Room 10 had a fantastic time at Te Tahawai Marae. We learnt all about the tukutuku patterns that are displayed around the room inside the marae. We found out that they tell a story just like books do in the library.

The name Te Tahawai comes from the meaning - edge of the water. That is why the school is named Edgewater College.

We had a great time drawing our own koru and kowhaiwhai patterns.
